HOYA ConBio™ Launches the V-Raser™: A Compact Solution for Vascular Lesions

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

New Laser — Only 4-lbs — Offers Targeted Treatment, Novel Design

Fremont, CA - April 21, 2008  - HOYA ConBioTM, a global leader in dental and aesthetic lasers, today announced the US launch of the V-Raser diode laser for treatment of vascular lesions.  The extremely compact V-Raser was unveiled at the 28th Annual Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, offering physicians an effective solution for common red and blue blood vessels, including facial telangiectasias.

“The V-Raser is uniquely suited to be an integral part of any aesthetic medical practice,” said Timothy S. Gehlmann, President & CEO, HOYA ConBio.  “The targeted design of the V-Raser complements other laser and light based therapies for comprehensive treatment of photodamaged and photoaged skin.  Because facial spider veins are so common, physicians will be able to use this laser on virtually every one of their cosmetic patients.”

The 980 nm wavelength of the diode laser offers safe, effective treatment of high-flow blood vessels, including red and blue vessels especially on the face.  Variable spot sizes allow physicians to reach small, hard-to-treat areas such as the crevices and sides of the nose. Resolution is achieved in one to three treatments, depending on the size of the vessel.

“The V-Raser is a revolutionary new vascular lesion laser that’s different from anything else out there,” said David Goldberg, MD, Director, Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of NY/NJ and Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. “The ideal patient is that individual who has photodamage and a variety of blood vessels, including telangiectasias, on his/her cheeks and nose.  The V-Raser is uniquely successful in removing a variety of facial vessels with minimal patient discomfort.  And, it’s the smallest laser I’ve ever seen.”

Weighing only four pounds, the V-Raser is extremely compact and can fit anywhere in a physician’s clinic.  Priced at $29,950, the V-Raser is a cost-effective tool introduced by Hoya ConBio, developers of the MedLite and RevLite Q-Switched Nd: YAG lasers, widely regarded as workhorses of the aesthetic industry.

The RevLite, launched in 2007, features PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse™ (PTP), a unique pulse dispersion that enables physicians to harness up to 60 percent more power.

“We are excited about the new relationship with Eclipse Medical and anticipate it will significantly enhance awareness and sales of RevLite and MedLite lasers in key southern markets,” stated Timothy Gehlmann, President & CEO of HOYA ConBio™. “This alliance is part of our aggressive strategy to educate physicians on the benefits of PhotoAcoustic therapy and communicate the value and excellent ROI of our multi-wavelength lasers for the progressive aesthetic practice.”

Tom O’Brien, CEO of Eclipse Medical, believes that HOYA ConBio’s innovative aesthetic medical lasers are a natural fit within his company’s growing portfolio of cutting-edge technologies. “HOYA ConBio™ lasers are widely respected as the leading choice for multi-color tattoo removal. HOYA ConBio™ Announces Availability of PurpuraLite™, a Revolution in Purpura-Laser Treatments

Monday, January 1st, 2007

Fremont, CA, January 2007 – HOYA ConBio™, a leading provider of laser solutions for medical and dental practices worldwide, announced today that its new chromophore-clearing device, the PurpuraLite™, can be used to minimize or eliminate purpura that typically results from certain aesthetic laser treatments.

Purpura is the purplish discoloration in the skin, resulting from minor bleeding within the skin that often appears following laser treatment. PurpuraLite™ allows the physician to temporarily “empty” the fine blood vessels under the treatment area, eliminating the “red” chromophore that would typically absorb energy and create a purpuric response. By moving the red blood cells out of the way, red blood cells are not disrupted and purpura is avoided.

“ PurpuraLite™ exemplifies our ongoing commitment to establishing our MedLite™ laser as the first and only system versatile enough for all aesthetic applications and skin types,” said Timothy Gehlmann, President & CEO of HOYA ConBio.

“The MedLite™ line of lasers has over 15 years of consistent reliability, safety and unparallel return on investment,” notes the Aesthetic Buyers Guide, March/April 2006. (www.miinews.com)“With the fastest treatment periods available, MedLite™ lasers’ dollar per minute (DPM) return is unmatched.”

PurpuraLite™ is now shipped as a standard accessory with all MedLite™ lasers, and can be purchased as an option to lasers already in use throughout the world.

MedLite® C6 Approved for Laser Skin Resurfacing for the Treatment of Wrinkles and Acne Scars

Monday, March 3rd, 2003

HOYA ConBio is proud to announce that the MedLite® C6 has been FDA approved for laser skin resurfacing for the treatment of acne scars and wrinkles. This adds yet another indication for this laser, which already includes epidermal and dermal pigmented lesion removal, advanced tattoo removal, laser-assisted hair removal and vascular lesion treatment.

With the popularity of this procedure rising, the MedLite® C6 is fast becoming the laser of choice for this treatment. When using the MediLite®, there is little risk of pigmentary changes or burns, and no risk of pitted scars. Patients report and doctors have confirmed that they have achieved a more refreshed appearance, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, smoother skin texture, and a decrease in pore size. The MedLite® was discovered to be effective in this application when treating patients for other indications. Physicians discovered that their patients were noticing these non-ablative resurfacing benefits. Paul Jarrod Frank, MD, Director of 5th Avenue Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center, and a pioneer in minimally invasive cosmetic surgery, has been using this technology with great success for 3 years. “The Medlite Laser toning procedure offers patients the safest and least invasive way to effectively minimize the appearance of wrinkles and scars in any skin type. Used alone or in combination with other procedures, laser toning is a standard in minimally invasive cosmetic rejuvenation”, says Dr Frank.

A study conducted by Paul Friedman, MD and Roy Geronemus, MD (Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York) used 3-D in-vivo optical skin imaging to objectively quantify the efficacy of multiple treatment sessions with the MedLite® for acne scarring. The researchers also looked to determine improved efficacy after multiple treatment sessions, and biomechanically characterize nonablative skin rejuvenation. It was found that in less than five treatment sessions, patients experienced quantifiable improvement of surface topography, and in skin tone.
